How I Designed a Photography Website That Feels Like Coffee with a Friend

Let’s talk about how I designed a photography website. You know that feeling when a website just feels like you? That’s exactly what my client B, a portrait, events, branding and wedding photographer, was craving when she came to me.

Her DIY site had served her well for years. But as her business grew, it no longer matched the warmth and professionalism she brings to every session. She wanted something that felt more aligned, more inviting, and a lot more her.

The Power of a Website That Feels Like You

If you’ve ever landed on someone’s website and instantly felt like, “Yes, this is my person,” then you know the impact of a well-aligned brand and website.

For service-based creatives like photographers, your website isn’t just a portfolio, it’s a handshake, a welcome mat, and a story all in one. When it doesn’t feel like you, it’s easy to feel disconnected from your own marketing.

Let Me Introduce You to My Distinctive Design Framework…

To create a site that felt like a cozy coffee chat with Client B, I walked her through my Distinctive Design Framework to design the perfect photography website. Here’s how we brought her vision to life:

1. Clarity Call

We started with a conversation about what was working and what wasn’t. She loved her content and photos, but the structure and overall look didn’t feel cozy or strategic.

2. Deep Dive Blueprint

Next, I had Client B fill out a detailed questionnaire to hone in on her ideal clients. We mapped out the kind of experience she wanted visitors to have—warm, easy, approachable—like catching up over coffee.

3. Signature Design Selection

We used the main feature image she wanted to use to create a cozy and professional color palette, paired it with friendly fonts, and leaned into whitespace to let her work shine. Everything was designed to echo her calm, welcoming energy.

4. Distinctive Launch

We built a clean, easy-to-navigate layout with intentional calls to action, updated galleries, and client love sprinkled throughout. The end result? A custom site that finally reflects the magic she brings to every shoot.

From Overwhelmed to In Control

Now, Client B has a photography website that doesn’t just look good…it feels good. She has clarity in her brand, confidence in her online presence, and a website she’s proud to share.

HI! I’m Beth…

My life has been anything but ordinary. Web designer, Paralympian, and former flight attendant who once organized her stuffed animals by size just for fun.

13 years ago, I jumped off a cliff (literally), broke my back, and everything changed. Since then, I’ve worn a lot of hats—architectural drafter, globe-trotter, virtual assistant—but the one that stuck? Creative web wizard with a soft spot for bold brands and killer strategy.

Now, I geek out on all things web design, play outside as often as I can, and of course… make sure every pixel has a purpose. Whether you’re dreaming of a site that feels more you or one that finally converts browsers into buyers, I’m here to help you bring it to life—beautifully and strategically.
